Katarina Wit started skating when she was age five. It was not long before her talent became evident, and in Karl-Marx-Stadt she entered an institution specifically designed for children who have athletic talents. They was introduced to Jutta Muller here. Witt placed second in the World Championships of Copenhagen in 1982. Her debut was a huge success. After that, she began winning the competition with her elegance and grace. Olympic success at Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the ladies' bronze medal in figure skating following an intense contest. Witt won an even more close competition after four years. Although she lost in the competition for free skating, the gold medal was awarded to her efforts on the compulsory figures, as well as on the short program. Witt was the only woman ever since Sonja Haenie to win an apex figure skater. Hall of Fame Witt competed in the Lillehammer Winter Games in 1994 after a successful career as an actor. She placed seventh but enchanted the crowd despite not winning the medal. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame took place in 1995.
